Absa’s cardless ATM solution enables users to access their money without a physical debit card. All the user needs to do is connect to the Absa Banking application on their smartphone. Once in the app, the customer selects the ATM QR Cash icon, then scans the QR code on the ATM. Once the scan is complete, the customer’s phone will present the options of the amount of money to withdraw and, once confirmed, they will be able to withdraw their money from the machine.

Uganda said: “Digital payments are evolving at a rapid pace, especially in this COVID-19 era where public health is a major concern. Absa responds to the needs of customers who seek convenience and security as well as solutions that allow them to perform their banking transactions with as little physical interaction as possible. We are therefore proud to bring another innovation that meets these needs.

The bank’s strategic ambition is to become an adapted and digitally oriented company. Absa has made significant investments in digital innovation and infrastructure over the past few years and continues to promise new innovations as a critical component in the development of its ecosystem.

“This new cardless solution, which is part of our ongoing offering of next-generation solutions to our customers, ensures minimal contact with the ATM screen and keypads. It also protects customers and minimizes the risk of cards being compromised at spoofed ATMs, ”Jallow added.

The feature joins a host of other digital innovations offered by the bank, such as the contactless functionality on the bank’s vertical debit cards, the Novo FX mobile app and the AI-powered Abby WhatsApp chatbot.

At Absa, we remain committed to finding differentiated transactional banking propositions to meet the evolving needs of our clients by delivering innovative and digitized products through personalized service, ”said Vinolin David, Absa Groups Program Director for Cards and Payments .
