Man tries to break into ATM, arrested

KARACHI: A man has been caught in the act of trying to break into a private bank automatic teller machine (ATM) in the upscale Defense Housing Authority (DHA) community in Karachi, police said on Saturday.
They said the suspected thief identified as Munawar Hussain entered a private bank ATM in the Murtaza shopping area to steal money.
He first spray painted a CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk, then attempted to break into the ATM using a hammer and other tools.
After obtaining information, Sahil police quickly reached the bank and grabbed the suspect, said Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Zubair Nazir Shaikh.

The officer said a further investigation of the arrested man was underway.
Last year, in December, a gang of suspected thieves broke into an automated teller machine (ATM) of a private bank in the Gulberg area of ââKarachi and fled with 1.8 million cash.
The shrewd suspects opened part of the ATM that houses trays loaded with cash. They decamped with two of the three trays, having 1.8 million rupees in banknotes while leaving the third which only had 5,000 rupees in cash.
