Man kidnaps military officer in Ogun, assumes identity after stealing uniform, phones and more

A man has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for kidnapping a military officer and stealing his uniform, automated teller machine (ATM) cards and other property.

Police say the suspect and his colleagues kidnapped a W / O 2 military officer at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday and took him to their hideout in Alagbado, Lagos state, where they stripped him of his uniform and took him away. allegedly stole his identity. card, cell phones and and three automated teller machine (ATM) cards.



The suspect was arrested in Odo Pako Ota, in the Ado-Odo / Ota local government area in Ogun State.

The suspect, Waliu Oloyede, was arrested following a distress call received by the divisional police officer at Sango Ota’s divisional headquarters, CSP Godwin Idehai, who claimed that local vigilantes were having problems with an officer army in the region.

After receiving the report, the DPD allegedly took his team to the scene where the suspect, dressed in full military camouflage with the rank of W / 02, was seen.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect, who had presented himself in military uniform “could not give a satisfactory account of himself and was apprehended and brought to the post “.

Oyeyemi said the suspect, who allegedly tried to snatch a Danish weapon from a vigilante, was unable to explain how he obtained the military uniform or the address of the unit he was serving in, so he was detained for identity theft. .

“While in custody, police obtained information that the suspect and others in general abducted a W / O2 military officer around 11:30 p.m. on July 16, 2021 and took him to their hiding place in Alagbado, Lagos State, where he was stripped of his uniform, they recovered his ID card, three ATM cards and his phone before the victim slipped out of their hands, ”Oyeyemi told DAILY POST on Monday.

Oyeyemi said: “It was the victim’s uniform that the suspect put on to commit another crime before being arrested.”
