FirstBank’s Verve card transacts and wins real promotion not a scam – Winners
Over the weekend, First Bank of Nigeria Limited presented a brand new car to the grand prize winner in the recently concluded Verve Card deal and winning promotion. AMAKA IFEAKANDU examines the benefits of the Verve card and the impact of the campaign on customers.
First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Nigeria’s premier commercial bank, has rewarded the grand winner of its Verve Card campaign, Mr. Olakunle Animasahun, Chairman of Kanwl International Limited, with a brand new car.
The 14-week promotion, in partnership with Verve, was designed to reward Verve Card customers for their continued use and adoption of the card for various digital transactions.
Although the winners initially thought the promo was a scam, they later praised the giant financial institution when it turned out to be real.
In total, the bank distributed the sum of N50 million to 2,631 customers as part of the promotion and other prizes including cash, airtime, generators, fridge, cooking gas and televisions.
The bank previously extended its Verve Card promotion until July 1, 2022, saying the extension provides it with the ability to further reward customers for their continued use of the Verve debit card.
Procedure to win
According to the bank, to qualify to win the car, customers must make 16 transactions during the promotional period, while a minimum of four weekly transactions qualify customers for a chance to win one of the 32-inch LED TVs.
The Verve Card campaign, designed to reward customers for their continued use of the Verve debit card, has seen thousands of bank customers win numerous prizes since the promotion launched earlier in the year.
Verve FirstBank Card
FirstBank’s Verve card allows cardholders to easily pay for goods and services as it is accepted by all payment channels and bank branches connected to the Interswitch network in Nigeria.
The card is powered by Interswitch, secured by chip and PIN technology.

denominated in Naira.
Apart from the fact that the card is accepted wherever the Interswitch logo or the verve logo is displayed in Nigeria, it is valid for Quickteller services.
The FirstBank verve card is unique because transactions made with the card can easily be monitored through the FirstBank online banking service and on the FirstBank Mobile Banking app.
The card has 24 hour access to handle any card related complaints via FirstContact
Listing the benefits of the card, the bank said the verve card has easy access to funds around the clock, eliminates the risk and inconvenience of carrying cash and also
flexible as it can be used across multiple channels – point of sale (PoS), web, automated teller machine (ATM) among others
The card can be used to make payments of up to N2,500,000 per day using FirstBank POS terminals.
It has several value-added services such as airtime recharge, bill payment, etc.
There are discounts for Verve cardholders and this is an exclusive collection of discounts for Verve cardholders.
Enthusiastic comments from the winners
In his moment of excitement, the featured prize winner Mr. Animasahun expressed his gratitude to FirstBank and Verve for finding him worthy of being the grand prize winner.
“This car given to me today is a surprise to me because I did not expect it, when they contacted me I thought it was a scam, until my wife asks me to go to bank and check after getting series of calls.
“When I arrived at the bank, I was congratulated for winning a car. I thank FirstBank very much,” he said.
Some of the lucky customers who spoke to reporters as the first group of winners were presented said they were very excited about the new winners and congratulated FirstBank for launching the promotion.
For example, Aluko Olakunle, who won a refrigerator, said: “When I was first informed by the bank that I was one of the winners, I first thought it was was one of those scams, but then I took the time to visit FirstBank head office to confirm.
“After the confirmation, it’s not quiet for long, I was called to pick up the item at the bank’s headquarters. I appreciate what FirstBank has done. Ever since I was young, Firstbank was my first choice of bank.
Another winner, Ajao Tawakalit Abiola, who won a gas cooker, said, “I was sleeping when the call came and when I woke up to take it, the caller showed up and told me that she was from FirsBank that I had won a gas cooker. I didn’t believe her because I knew I wasn’t involved in any draws.
“The next day, she called me back to pick up a gas cooker that I won. I told my husband about it and he encouraged me to go. Today I have a gas cooker from FirstBank and pray that FirstBank continues to be first in everything.
Similarly, during the second round of awards, Sergeant Kusalu Babatunde Solomon, who won a generator, said he was excited and prayed for God to continue promoting FirstBank.
Meanwhile, Aitsegame Harley Ani Otsemobor, who won a fridge, said, “When I got the text, I thought it was one of those scammers stealing everywhere, so I don’t know. answered, until two days later when someone called me back from FirstBank and told me I had won a fridge.
“At that point, my mind went back to the initial text message I received. I appreciate First-Bank for doing this for their customers.
In the same vein, Saka Adelaja Lateef, who won the refrigerator prize, said, “I am so happy about this and I pray that God bless FirstBank management and staff members.
Speaking at the award ceremony on Friday in Lagos, Mr. Chuma Ezirim, Group Director, E-Commerce and Retail Products of FirstBank, said the aim of the promotion was to appreciate the most eight million Verve debit cardholders from the bank.
“We have given away over N50 million in prizes to 2,631 customers, including the grand prize of a brand new car which will be given away today.
“Other prizes awarded during the promotion were: N50,000, N20,000 and N10,000 cash prizes, N10,000 airtime; generators, refrigerator, cooking gas and televisions.
“We are delighted with the customer response to the promotion and encourage continued use of the Verve Card as it is a card offering that promotes safe, convenient and rewarding digital banking for customers,” said he declared.

Also speaking, Ms Folasade Femi-Lawal, Head Card Business, FirstBank, described the promotion as “unique and the first of its kind” in the industry in a long time.
Femi-Lawal said: “While other banks are sharing items, Verve and FirstBank have decided to reward their esteemed customers with a brand new car in addition to other things.
“We started industry-wide for eight weeks, then by popular demand and with the support of FirstBank and Verve management, we decided to extend for another six weeks, so the whole promotion has lasted 14 weeks.
“During this we had 800 winners who won N10,000 cash, 800 winners who won N10,000 airtime, we also had 800 winners who won N20,000, 100 customers won N50, 000 cash, 40 customers went home with gas stoves, 30 customers left with brand new refrigerators, 30 customers won 32 inch televisions, 30 customers left with brand new generators and finally a grand prize winner.
