ATM recovered from water; 6 arrested
Japur: Police recovered an ATM from a body of water in a laterite stone quarrying area and arrested six people charged in connection with an ATM looting case here today.
Those arrested were charged with uprooting an ATM located at Neulpur bazaar under Dharmasala police boundary in Jajpur district. They were also reportedly involved in an ATM looting incident on August 26 in the Haripur market area under Kuakhia district police boundaries.
A plan had been prepared by the Jajpur SP and a team consisting of three IICs from the district to catch the ATM looters.
Acting on a tip-off, the team raided various locations in Jajpur and successfully apprehended six people charged in connection with a series of ATM looting cases.
According to reports, unidentified miscreants had uprooted an SBI ATM at Neulpur Bazaar late on the night of August 24 and decamped with Rs 5,67,500 in cash. After two days, a similar incident was reported in Haripur market where the disbelievers looted Rs 3.92 lakh from the ATM.
While the investigation is ongoing in a series of ATM looting cases, the police have not yet shared any information in this regard. However, more defendants are suspected behind the ATM looting cases in the district.
