Open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hello and Welcome! -- We are Paul and Claire Tinkerhess and for 20 years we've enjoyed running our old-fashioned customer-is-treated-like-royalty brick-and-mortar shoe store, our own little organic shoe farm. We specialize in personal service and expert shoe repair skills that can bring old Birkenstocks back from beyond the edge of death. --(In fact we have remanufactured so many pairs of sandals over the years we figure we've probably saved a herd of cows by now! We walk to work and lead simple lives. So far we have resisted joining the ranks of internet dealers who shamelessly suck the life blood from distant locales. That said, if you yourself are in a distant locale and find that your footwear needs are unmet, we accept Discover, Visa, MasterCard and American Express over the phone. Glad you found us! If, on the other hand, you are in "our" locale, we want to say Thank You for shopping with us over all these years, and Thank You in advance for your continued loyalty. Over the course of our store's long life, we have come to appreciate that we stay in business only because there are enough people who understand that spending money is like watering a plant: if you want your community to grow excellent businesses, that happens by watering them with your dollars. If you want to choke off your local economy, then water the internet with your shopping dollars. You may save a few bucks this week, but soon enough you may wish you could travel back in time. So, thanks again, congratulations on being smart enough to be interested in Birkenstocks and curious enough to have read this far. Please allow us to offer "service that brings you to your feet". Peace, Paul and Claire We are at 209 North Fourth Avenue. That puts us two blocks north of Huron, one block east of Main Street. - You'll see the "BIRKENSTOCK" banner hung high on the side of a beautiful 100-year-old three-story brick building in the still-proudly-funky Kerrytown District of downtown Ann Arbor. You might or might not find a parking space right smack in front of our store, but circling the block you'll find plenty of on-street, surface, and garage parking. After shopping with us enjoy strolling through pedestrian-friendly downtown Ann Arbor, famous as a beacon of progressive politics and richness of culture. Ranked Third-Most-Walkable-City in America in 2008, Ann Arbor is home to hundreds of excellent local shops and restaurants, the beautifully restored city-owned Michigan Theater, The Ark live music club, the Hands-On Museum, Borders Books' flagship store, Hill Auditorium, Power Center, and of course one of the world's best Birkenstock stores!
