Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center

Support for Entrepreneurs
The Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) is part of a statewide small business support network funded through many sources including the U.S. Small Business Administrations (SBA), Washtenaw Community College, Washtenaw County, and several local banks and other businesses.

“We’ve help independently owned and operated businesses in many industries.  Our experienced business counselors offer great insight into the challenges and opportunities facing today’s entrepreneurs.  They have the skills, tools and resources to make a real difference for many local business owners, “says Charlie Penner, Regional Director of the MI-SBTDC.

Step by Step Guidance
The MI-SBTDC provides free confidential one-on-one counseling, low-cost training, demographic and marketing research, coaching and network building.  The MI-SBTDC’s business counselors’ primary goal is to help small business owners develop their growth strategies and deal effectively with the challenges of running a successful enterprise. They help business owners determine cash requirements, define marketing initiatives, develop sales strategies, and more.   Through Grand Valley State University, the MI-SBTDC can access essential market data for a new small business or an existing one, to help them gain a competitive edge.

“I’ve been working with the SBTDC for over a year now and my perspective and understanding of my business has improved immensely. My counselor has shown me how important it is to understand financial information and other key numbers. I feel much more confident about the decisions I make because they are not based on a gut feeling but business principals and facts,” says Scott Huckestein, Owner of Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Ann Arbor.

Long Term Business Support
The dream of starting a business can be very powerful but making it happen can be expensive, time consuming and problematic.  The MI-SBTDC is here to help overcome the challenges.  The MI-SBTDC establishes strong relationships with business owners and strives to help small businesses get through their toughest times and achieve their full potential.
